Hamstrings! Key players in pelvic stability and core function!
See how they attach to the sitz bones? Their attachment makes them a key player in rotating the pelvis back (posterior tuck, tucking the tailbone, etc).
Can you tuck your tailbone only using hamstrings? This is a skill worth mastering!
If you tuck with your glutes, you’re tightening the back half of your pelvic floor (which can cause lengthening and weakness in the front half...recipe for prolapse). Habitually doing this can lead to hemorrhoids, anal tissues, hip pain, pelvic organ prolapse, along with a list of other issues.
TRY THIS: laying on your back with knees bent and feet on the floor, put your hands on your glutes. Try to roll your pelvic back so your spine is flat on the floor only using abs and hamstrings (no glute tension!). Once you’ve mastered that, try it in standing!
